*Special weekend edition!
Hi Reader I am writing you from the train today. Helping a friend of mine move houses in this late spring time of transition. The "winds of change" are swirling.
Usually I write on Thursday's but this week we have a long Holiday weekend again in Germany. We had another bank Holiday on Thursday and a lot of people end up taking the 4-day weekend off as well. Why go to work on Friday... I think it was a pretty slow day.
One of my clients had a breakthrough recently that I want to share with you here.
I was reminded of the power of asking your 3rd degree connections and community for any leads that they may have for you in the job search.
Olgu, my Expats Job Miracle client, had reached out to one of his oldest friends back home to describe his situation.
Being in contact with your best friends is not uncommon, but asking for support in times of need is critical to get everyones perspective involved.
We had been trying many doors here in Germany. Especially in the Munich area. But he was not being accepted into interviews.
It just so turned out that his old friend back home knew an SAP team lead in Germany, and actually they are quite close friends.
This SAP team lead and Olgu got to talking...
Turned out that Olgu was able to get a referral from this 3rd degree connection, which was enough to get a "foot in the door" for the first interview at an extremely hard company to enter.
This company receives thousands of applications per month as one of the largest English-speaking companies in Germany.
Now Olgu is going on his 3rd interview with the company.
Again, the lesson here is not to simply keep in touch with your friends. That's probably easily done.
The lesson is about how powerful this outer circle is. The connections of your closest friends and allies. Those people are just a few questions away.
The interviews are not finished yet. But the situation went from stalled to promising with a little bit of outside thinking. "Hats off" to Olgu.
These 3rd and 4th degree connections: They are speaking to different groups, consuming different media sources, just outside of your bubble and everyday contacts.
I can help you connect the dots or "fuse the broken links" just outside of your circle of influence.
There is an art to the messaging you make when you reach out to those who can help you along the way to your goal. It takes practice, adjustments, open-mindedness and flexibility.
Every week when we meet; I help you work on these messages. This is so that we can come up with the best outreach messages after learning some things to change along the way.
That's evolution in practice.
So this week, try this out on your own. Or reach out to me with an email back so we can do it together.
The power of an accountability partner to push you when times get hard is strong, and I can support you as one more person to lean on.
Nothing changes unless you try something different 🙌🏼
Hope it was a nice long weekend.
Kind regards,
Kevin
PS: We will be having another webinar coming up, keep an eye out in your inbox for an invite coming from me soon.
We still have 8 seats left for the fall EJO course which I just opened a few weeks ago. If you signup early you save over 1,000€. Take a look into the program so we can work together like me and Olgu.
